Family Day of Service – May 20, 2018

Sharptown Church
Family Service Event
@ Pilesgrove Veteran’s Cemetery
May 20th – 10:15 to 11 am

In partnership with the Family Strengthening Network of South Jersey (of which Rachael Bill and Carrie Pasquarello are employees), Sharptown Church will again be participating in the annual Family Day of Service Weekend. The goal of the organization for this event is to encourage FAMILIES to serve together in some area that benefits others or raises an awareness for a worthy cause. For the past several years, The Family Strengthening Network has spearheaded family service opportunities all around South Jersey on the 3rd weekend in May. You may have even noticed other organizations and businesses already advertising and participating this year. Sharptown Church has participated many times by hosting the STOP HUNGER NOW food packing event.

This year, Sharptown has committed to hosting a family service opportunity during the Sunday school hour on May 20th. We invite you to meet directly at the Pilesgrove Veteran’s Cemetery at 10:15 to:

  • hear a local Sharptown veteran share about the importance of our military and the importance of honoring and remembering our veterans
  • participate in a time of prayer
  • work together with your family to make a wreath (all supplies provided) to be placed near or on a headstone of your choice (perhaps a family member or someone you know or perhaps someone completely anonymous) as a decoration for Memorial Day

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Sign up to participate by emailing Kristen Raine (participants to sign up early will each receive a Family Day of Service t-shirt and goodie bag).
  • Offer to help with set-up (9:45 am)/clean-up(11:15 am) or during the event (10 to 11 am)
  • A Veteran? Come support and perhaps share! (We are looking for a Sharptown veteran or even a few Sharptown veterans who would be willing to come in uniform and share with our children and families for about 5 minutes.)
  • Have a family member buried at the Pilesgrove Veteran’s Cemetery and would love for us to honor them with one of the wreaths we are making? Please let us know. It would be an honor to recognize your family member.

Just a reminder: This is an event tailored for families to serve together … so plan to come, bring your family and work together to make the wreath. Single or don’t have kids or don’t have little kids? That’s totally ok, all are invited and encouraged to participate. Sign up and show up – we can pair you up with another person or family.
